Universal Joint
A universal joint, often abbreviated as U-joint, is a mechanical coupling designed to transmit rotary motion and torque between two shafts that are not perfectly aligned. It is widely used in many types of machinery and vehicles because it allows power to be transferred smoothly even when the connected shafts operate at an angle. This flexibility makes it an essential component in systems where movement, vibration, or changing geometry would otherwise make direct shaft connection impossible.The basic structure of a universal joint is relatively simple.
